Fire induced concrete spalling in combination with size effects

چکیده
Abstract The size effect has its origin in fracture mechanics and describes the formation as well propagation of cracks brittle solid materials dependence specimen size. However, concrete spalling damage behaviour on a macroscopic scale for different sized specimens case fire. Concrete is very complex yet not fully understood phenomenon. To reduce effort fire tests to analyse mixtures, this study investigates susceptibility six mixtures three sizes. sizes were divided full slabs (1.8 m × 1.2 0.3 m), intermediate cuboids (0.6 0.6 m) small cylinders (Ø0.15 m). For purpose, novel test set-up was built or twelve simultaneously ensure similar heating regime every specimen. All exposed one side remained unrestrained. A occurred four mixtures. Compared reduced significantly all smaller Additionally, did occur specimens. results show that an essential parameter investigate mixture. future investigations testing conditions must be adjusted recreate slabs.

A Comprehensive Review of Spalling and Fire Performance of Concrete Members
Spalling of concrete in fire is due to dislodgement of small pieces of concrete. This phenomenon is one of the most detrimental effects causing damage or even failure of the concrete members during or after a fire by decreasing the residual mechanical properties and durability of the structure. In spite of many experimental and numerical studies, the real mechanism of spalling is still not well...
متن کاملAutomated measurement of concrete spalling through reinforcement detection
In emergency scenarios, immediate reconnaissance efforts are necessary. These efforts often take months to complete in full. While underway, building occupants are unable to return to their homes/businesses, and thus, the impact on the society of the disaster-stricken region is increased. In order to mitigate the impact, researchers have focused on creating a more efficient means of assessing t...

the work presented in this paper investigates the causes of size effects in structural-concrete members. it isbased on the use of a finite-element model found to yield realistic predictions of structural-concrete behavior in allcases investigated to date. in fact, the previous use of this model in investigations of size effects in reinforced-concretebeams indicated that such effects reflect the...

متن کاملFire Resistance of Concrete with Fly Ash Content – Experimental Analysis
The paper presents results from three large scale experiments on seven reinforced concrete panels obtained during an extensive experimental program. This was aimed at possible application of cement reduced (fly ash replaced) concrete in the production of precast segmental linings for tunnels created by a tunnel boring machine (TBM). In particular, this paper is focused on the comparison of fire...
